that led to the down fall of david petraeus. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom with the latest. >> reporter: we could hear from president obama this morning, his take on the scandal involving general david petraeus and john allen. the president is holding his first news conference since the election the white house has said the president now stands by allen. we are also seeing the woman at the center of it for the first time since news of her fair with petraeus broke, paula broadwell had a glass of wine at her brother's house. this morning the fbi and cia are expected to brief members of house on what they know. the question many lawmakers have is whether national security was threatened? a source familiar with the case tells abc news that broadwell admitted she took documents from secure government buildings fbi found classified documents on her computer. the other woman jill kelley called 911 last night. she told the operator the media was on her property and tried to use her honorary counsul title to get special treatment. >> i -- they should not be able to cross my property

in afghanistan is implicated in the scandal that brought down now former cia director david petraeus. the pentagon says it is investigating inappropriate communications between general john allen and jill kelley, the woman that petraeus' mistress allegedly sent threatening e-mails to you. the fbi reportedly uncovered 20,000 to 30,000 allegedly inappropriate e-mails between allen and kelley. she's a social liaison at the military base in florida. the general insists he's friends with kelley, but paula broadwell apparently saw her as a romantic rival. the fbi is keeping quiet of a search of broadwell's home. agents searched her home for five hours last night. they left with several boxes. broadwell's relationship with petraeus first came to light when the fbi began investigating jill kelley's claims that broadwell had sent her threatening e-mails. and the fbi is putting together a time line of the investigation to explain to members of congress why they were kept out of the loop until recently. they didn't know about the probe until last tuesday even though it had been going on for mon

in the david petraeus sex scandal. house and senate leaders want to know why they were never given the heads up on the investigation that led petraeus to resign as a cia director over an extramarital affair. with that resignation, petraeus might not have to testify this week at a congressional hearing on the benghazi consulate attack. cnn's barbara starr is following that story from the pentagon. good morning. >> good morning, soledad. well, look, at least at this point, there's no indication publicly of a national security breach. but that doesn't mean the questions aren't growing. lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are questioning the timing behind the revelation. house majority leader eric cantor said an fbi employee told him in october about the petraeus affair. by that time an fbi investigation was already under way. the fbi told the director of national intelligence james clapper on election night, according to a senior u.s. intelligence official. the white house says it was notified the day after the election, and the president the following day. that doesn't make sense to house homela

in the scandal that ended the cia career of retired general david petraeus. another top military man has now been dragged into it. nbc's pete williams joins us now with the latest. pete, what are we to make of general john allen and his connection or relationship to this tampa woman? jill kelley. >> right, jill kelley is the woman in tampa who first alerted the fbi that she was getting inappropriate e-mails. that eventually led to the disclosure, officials say, of an affair between david petraeus, the director of cia, and paula broadwell. the author of those e-mails. in getting access to the e-mail accounts of both women, the fbi officials say there were e-mail discovered between general allen and jill kelley. now they've been described as inappropriate although general allen's people say that that is a wild mischaracterization. that he occasionally referred to her as sweetheart but it was affectionate. that they were family friends and there was nothing untoward. there is a second element to all this. the pentagon in disclosing all this this morning that there were 20,000 to 30,000 pages, but ag
